Our body tells us when we need healing. Signs we need support show up in physical and emotional imbalances such as negative self-talk, heightened sensitivity, grief, fear, stress, aches and pain. However, these stressors are temporary, and we all have the power to heal and return to wholeness anywhere, anytime.


The definition of self-healing is to restore and cure ourselves to health again. While there are so many incredible practitioners and therapists in the world, we aren’t always in a position where we can call on others to help us through our healing process.


Fortunately, our body is a powerful healing tool in itself. Our cells in a continual state of renewal, repairing and regenerating and the infinite healing field available to us at every moment. With this knowledge plus cultivating empowering techniques and tools, we can tap into our own healing potential anywhere, anytime.




Here are 5 ways you can begin your self-healing journey today…


CREATE A SLEEP ROUTINE

Did you know our body goes into its own ‘healing stage’ when we are in the deepest phases of our sleep? In that delicious deep state, blood flows to the muscles, tissues are repaired, hormones are released, and our cells are regulated. With this in mind, the first step in self-healing is to create a healthy sleep routine.


Some Suggestions include:

Try and go to bed at the same time most nights (preferably before 10pm).

Detaching yourself from the digital devices at least an hour or two before and a hot shower or bath to cleanse away the activities of the day does wonders... Reading at night is more soothing than scrolling. If you are having difficulty falling asleep, listen to a guided meditation.


SELF-HEALING USING BREATH

Centuries ago, the yogi tapped into the power of breathing as a healing tool and researchers are now proving that these masters and gurus knew to be true.

Using breath can transform how we feel physically and emotionally within minutes. Just a few full and elongated breathing calms the nervous system, regulates blood pressure and helps us move from fight and flight mode into ease and equilibrium.


There are various breathing techniques to try. Below is the ‘box breathing’ recommended for alleviating insomnia, chronic stress, anxiety and panic.

Step 1: Breathe in slowly for 4 seconds.

Step 2: Hold your breath for 4 seconds.

Step 3: Slowly exhale through the mouth for 4 seconds.

Repeat a few times until you feel calm and centered.


MEDITATION AS YOUR MEDICINE

The science behind the benefits of regular meditation for our brain and body is truly staggering – and motivating! Not only does meditation relax our mind, it supports the body in healing from all sorts of chronic issues. A regular meditation practice builds inner resilience that can help us manage if not protect us from feeling overwhelmed from everyday stressors. Creating a meditation practice that works for you is an empowering support system to help you on your healing journey.


Below is simple daily 5–10-minute meditation *Find a quiet place to sit and close your eyes *Take a few deep breaths *Turn your gaze inward and listen to your breathing *As your mind wanders, keep returning your focus back to listening to your breath. *Continue until you feel calm and centered


PRACTICE GRATITUDE

Practicing gratitude regularly is like the ‘magical formula’ to the universe. It’s truly incredible how we can recalibrate our brain to elevate our experience of life through practicing thankfulness. We do this by focusing on what is working for us rather than what isn’t. The more we are in a state of gratitude, the more we feel happy and optimistic– and from here we become a magnet for even more positive experiences and opportunities.

Begin a gratitude journal- every day, record at least five things, events, people or places that you feel grateful for in your life.

Before sleep: Count your blessings before you go to sleep. In your mind, think of 5 things, events or people you feel thankful for that day.
